Sachem's Head Yacht Club (SHYC) is located on the beautiful Connecticut shore of Long Island Sound, in Guilford, Connecticut. SHYC's JR Sailing Program is a successful, long-running sailing program with approximately 90 sailors from ages 6 to 16. The JR program’s strengths are in fostering a love of sailing and respect for the water, teaching sailing and seamanship, and training kids for youth racing and travel regattas. Our waterfront includes launch service from sunrise to sunset, 6 club owned 420, 6 RS Fevas,  OpenBICs, 1 club owned Sonar, privately owned Optis.  Our club has active racing fleets of Opti, Opti Green, RS Fevas, Sonars, and Lasers.

Program/Coaching Dates: Our classes run for 8 weeks (most sailors do 6 of the 8 weeks, which are divided up into 2-week blocks), from late-June to mid-August. Prep Week for staff is a full week before classes start. Our dates for classes in 2025 are June 23 to August 14, 2025, with prep week on 6/16.  Housing can be made available before and after the program on an as needed basis.

FREE HOUSING ON-SITE for our remote sailing coaches (for up to 4 people each summer). Pay is competitive and based on experience and years of instruction.

Possible professional internships available (various industry/connections through local club members) before and after the Sailing Program for interested coaches!!  (Timing = May, Early June, Late August).
