Seeking Sailing Coach & Racing Coach (for summer 2023) - FREE Housing & Internships Opportunities too
 
Sachem's Head Yacht Club (SHYC) is located on the beautiful Connecticut shore of Long Island Sound, in Guilford, Connecticut. SHYC's JR Sailing Program is a successful, long-running sailing program with approximately 90 sailors from ages 6 to 16. The JR program’s strengths are in fostering a love of sailing and respect for the water, teaching sailing and seamanship, and training kids for youth racing and travel regattas. Our waterfront includes launch service from sunrise to sunset, 6 club owned 420, 6 RS Fevas,  OpenBICs, 1 club owned Sonar, privately owned Opti.  Our club has active racing fleets of Opti, Opti Green, RS Fevas, Sonars, and Lasers.  
 
Program/Coaching Dates: Our classes run for 8 weeks (most sailors do 6 of the 8 weeks, which are divided up into 2-week blocks), from late-June to mid-August. Prep Week for staff is a full week before classes start. Our dates for classes in 2023 are June 19 to August 11, 2023. We offer FREE ON-SITE HOUSING at our yacht club for up to 4 instructors each summer. Pay is very competitive and base on experience.

Possible professional internships available (various industry/connections through local club members) before and after the Sailing Program for interested coaches!!  (Timing = May, Early June, Late August)
 
Seeking RS FEVA, 420, and Opti Race Coaches and Senior Instructors for Summer 2023. We are seeking knowledgeable race coach candidates who are proactive, organized, responsible, high-performing, and professional. Our Junior Programs include beginner sailing, intermediate sailing, recreational sailing, and racing in Opti, RS Feva, and 420s. Our Junior Sailing staff/team is comprised of 6 paid instructors/coaches and club-member, volunteer “junior instructors”. STEM & REACH modules are integrated into our sailing classes. Our safety coaching motorboats include 2 RIBs, a 17' Whaler, a 15' Whaler, and three 13’ Whalers. We also have a club owned Sonar that our sailing classes use for keel-boat practice and variety. Our Junior programs runs for 8 weeks, from late-June to mid-August.

Job Requirements
- For sailing program director = 4+ years working at a Sailing Program
- For coaches = 2+ years working in a Sailing Program environment
- Past racing & race coach experience
- US Sailing Instructor - minimum of Level 1 (Level 2 or 3 preferred for Sailing Director)
- CPR & First Aid certified
- SafeSport certified
- Prior experience working with a team of other coaches
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Highly organized
- Mature and experienced
- Commitment to safety
- Prior experience coaching racing
- Excellent powerboat driving skills (and license)
- Basic boat maintenance and repair skills
- Passionate about sailing, teaching and working with kids
- Strong knowledge of how to structure sailing classes & programs
- Knowledge about organizing racing programs & regatta travel
- A positive role model with strong leadership skills and communication
- Able to collaborate with students, parents, and other staff members
- Able to provide insightful and constructive feedback and instruction
