Job Description

Venice Youth Boating Association is a non-profit US Sailing Accredited Community Sailing Center located in Venice, FL with beautiful year-round sailing in local bays and the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, VYBA serves approximately 300 sailors in a summer sailing program and aproximately 80 sailors in school year race and adventure sail programs. All of our current instructors are US Sailing Level 1 or 2 certified. This position will be a part time Senior Coach position for the fall 2021--22 sailing season with the option to remain for the 2022 summer and beyond. The Senior Coach’s primary responsibility is on-the-water coaching and working with the school year Sailing Director to provide mentoring to Green and RWB Opti coaches as well as help coach Venice High School Sailing and C420 Race teams.  VYBA also runs adventure sail sessions which include sailing, kayaks, and paddleboards. The Senior Coach should be over 18 and with updated Level 1 (or higher) US Sailing certification, CPR and SafeSport.  The position start date is August 27th, with our Fall kick off party on August 28th (somewhat flexible). Fall sailing runs from September 1st to December 5th with one or two day a week afternoon practices and all day Saturday practices.  Spring season runs from January 10th to May 15th.  One local/regional regatta a month is typically planned, and one high school regatta a month is also typical.  The Senior coach may also need to help with Sunday Adventure Sail programs.  The position will be about 20 hrs per week, with a pay range of $15-20/hr depending on experience.  More information on specific programs can be seen at www.veniceyouthboating.com

The Head Coach will work directly with the Executive Director and School Year Sailing Director on administrative, will manage junior coaches and provide on-the-water coaching and oversight. 

Additional Tasks include but not limited to

The Senior Coach will oversee and perform powerboat and sailboat maintenance in coordination with the Directors.

The Senior Coach will help maintain the clubhouse classroom, boatyard and workshop and work with the director to determine needed inventory and purchases.

Job Requirements
- US Sailing Level 1 Certification Required (including CPR/First Aid/SafeSport)
- US Sailing Level 2 or 3 preferred
- Must pass a pre-employment background check
- Working knowledge of C420s, Open BIC, Optimists, and Lasers as well as Whalers and RIBs (coach boats)
- Coaching experience with High School Sailing and C420 Race teams
- Must be able to bend, stand, move, and participate in all related sailing activities
