Job Description

Come and work near the beach and NYC! Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club is accepting applications for sailing instructors and race coaches for the 2023 season!  Our program is dedicated to providing quality instruction and fostering a life-long love of sailing in a safe, nurturing environment. Our sailors range in age from 7-17 years and our fleet includes Opti’s, 420’s, FJ's, and Flying Scots. We have approximately 170 sailors participate in our 8-week program, including 1 week of minicamp. Time commitment for this position is full time Monday-Friday with virtually no weekend hours from mid-June to mid-August. Housing available for the right candidate. 
  • Manage a class of 10-12 students
  • Develop curriculum and daily lesson plans
  • Create fun and dynamic land activities to support on water drills
  • Develop and direct safe, effective on water drills
  • Follow all program safety protocol
  • Maintain and care for all boats and equipment (prepping/stowing properly, making minor repairs, reporting maintenance needs to the Program Director)
  • Create/maintain a safe learning environment while on land and on the water
  • Adhere to the daily work schedules and behavior expectations
  • Serve as a positive role model for all students
  • Maintain written records of daily activities, weather conditions, student attendance, boat use, incident reports, and student performance
  • Coordinate with other coaches and staff regarding shared equipment and spaces
  • Get kids excited about sailing!
Job Requirements
US Sailing Level 1 Certification
CPR/First Aid Certifications
Willingness and ability to work as part of a team
Strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and a positive attitude
Desire to develop personally as an instructor and excitement to get new people involved in sailing
