Job Description

 
 
Position:                      Sr. Sailing Director

Reports to:                   General Manager/COO

Direct reports:            Race Director, Waterfront Director, Sailing Director

 Position Summary:

The Sr. Sailing Director is the head of the StFYC Sailing Department. He/She is responsible for maintaining the club’s reputation as the world’s premiere regatta venue through dedication to the highest-level race management, regatta coordination, youth sailing development, team leadership, and facilities and equipment management. All of which are expected to lead to an exceptional member experience and international recognition.

Summary of Responsibilities:

·         Works with Executive Race Committee (ERC) to plan and execute all aspects of regattas

·         Works with ERC to set annual regatta schedule and manage bid process for grade 1 events

·         Promotes the sport of sailing and develops educational clinics for all members

·         Works with the GM & Controller to develop the annual budget for the Sailing Department

·         Works with GM and ERC to recruit, hire and train Sailing Department staff

·         Collaboration and Communications:

·         Works closely with and communicates with club’s management team on all sailing related events

·         Attends and participates in weekly club management team meetings

·         Attends and participates in monthly ERC meetings

·         Attends weekly meetings with ERC Chairman

·         Communicates all regatta needs to club events and culinary departments in a timely manner

·         Works with communications department to develop sailing marketing and promotion plans

·         Collaborates with all department heads to ensure success of overall club operations

 Regatta Planning and Execution:

·         Works with ERC to ensure adequate level of volunteer staffing for all events

·         Recruits and partners with professional PROs when required for large regattas

·         Supports Race Committee throughout event in whatever capacity necessary

·         Manages production of all race documents (NORs, Sailing instructions, registration forms, etc)

·         Oversees permit applications as related to sailing activities

·         Works closely and develops relationships with government agencies, USCG, Parks & Rec, etc

·         Works closely and develops relationships with Sailing Governing bodies, US Sailing, YRA, etc

·         Collaborates with ERC and regatta chairman to obtain sponsorship for regattas

·         Coordinate’s fulfillment of sponsorship responsibilities with club management and ERC

·         Ensures all protests are processed correctly

·         Supervises scoring and result publication

·         Coordinates and charters any necessary boats for regatta operations

·         Secures necessary out of town race officials, organizes travel and reimbursements

·         Works with management to ensure success of all regatta’s social events and award ceremonies

Junior Program:

·         Manages Jr Sailing Director to ensure that program offerings fit StFYC member desires

·         Ensures that all safety procedures and precautions are followed daily

·         Promote the sport of sailing in a positive light to future generations

·         Assists with recruiting, hiring and training of instructor staff

·         Build an extraordinary Jr. Sailing Program

 Waterfront and Docks:

·         Manages Waterfront Director to ensure all boats and equipment are race ready

·         Check in daily with WF director to ensure all PMs are being completed

·         Oversees inventory of all race committee equipment including marks, lines, tackle, etc

·         Oversees that J/22 fleet is maintained, cleaned and ready for use

·         Ensures all race committee boats are maintained, cleaned and ready for use

 Fiscal Duties:

·         Assists GM and ERC with development and adherence to a detailed annual budget

·         Responsible for individual regatta budget development and adherence to budget

·         Monitors and recommends capital budget expenses relating to all sailing departments

·         Updates and revises long term asset rotation plan

 Education:

·         Provides support and coaching to all STFYC PROs and regatta chairs

·         Works with ERC to plan and execute educational offerings for volunteers and staff

·         Trains volunteers and staff on maintenance and use of all marine electronics and equipment

Technology:

·         Ensures club website is updated and accurate as it relates to all sailing activities

·         Utilizes Microsoft office suite, Yacht Scoring, Clubspot softwareCompensation Information:

Qualifications:·
Enthusiastic, self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic
Extensive knowledge and experience in regatta and sailing operations
Demonstrated competence in successfully dealing with sailing customers or club member
Private Yacht Club experience preferred
Posses and maintain all necessary certifications
