The St. Thomas Yacht Club (STYC) is seeking a youth sailing instructor to coach entry level Pee Wee, Opti I/II, Adventure (Hobie) and Green Fleet sailing,and oversee the administrative duties for youth sailing programs.
The St. Thomas Yacht club is location in the beautiful US Virgin Islands and boasts one of the best sailing environments in the world. Since 2000 our junior sailing program has developed into one of the best in the US. Our young sailors have won 6 high school national championships and have contributed to numerous college programs. This year alone, 12 of our members are sailing on ranked college teams. A few years ago, Ian Barrows won a gold medal at the first IOC Youth Olympics. This past year, Taylor Canfield was ranked as the #1 match racer in the world by ISAF and also was the youngest to win the World Championship in match racing.
Our youth sailors start as young as age 5 and grow up sailing the breezy warm Caribbean waters. We have approximately 70 youth sailors in our entry-level classes and green fleet programs.
This position will serve as the primary coach for Opti I/II and Green Fleet, Pee Wee and Adventure sailing, and will also coordinate with the Optimist Race Team coach to improve Green Fleet skills and advance sailors into the Opti Race and C420 teams.
This position will also be responsible for boat maintenance for STYC boats.
Assistance with preparation and activities for regattas may be required.
The position will also include administrative duties such as:
• youth sailing course registration
• regatta coordination
• pee wee and adventure coaching staff organization
• summer camp registration and counselor coordination
• primary point of contact for scheduling and coordination for all STYC youth sailing programs
• coordinate with Antilles School on the high school sailing team schedule.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
Salary depending on qualifications and experience for full time/benefited work annually from September – June. (additional months of full time employment subject to negotiation and approval by STYC staff).
