The Sailing Director will direct all adult and junior sailing activities and report to the club General Manager. He or she will manage a team of summer sailing instructors and interface with our club members and their families, the marine staff, and various sailing related committees. Depending on the candidate, the employment may be seasonal only (~Apr-Oct) or a year-round position.

The Sailing Director will lead the development, promotion, and delivery of educational offerings (for a range of skill levels and age groups) as well as organization of racing events and programs to boost sailing participation on Long Island Sound. To these tasks the ideal Sailing Director will be a role model for sailors, bring energy, sailing experience and management, excellent communication skills, teaching, and financial and strategic planning skills. Detailed responsibilities include curriculum development, instruction, sailing staff management, race coordination, working with the marine staff on fleet maintenance, and instilling a culture of safety, respect for the water, training, open communications, and fun. To support these efforts, our sailing fleet includes Ideal 18s, 420’s, RS Fevas, Lasers, Optis, Hobie Waves, and various support craft.

Compensation is competitive and is based on experience, certifications, and prior work history and includes benefits and the potential for bonuses. The successful candidate will have the ability to conduct private sailing lessons to supplement her or his income.
