Job Description

The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC) is one of the world's premier yacht clubs and the finest in Canada. Our mission is to promote yachting, seamanship, and fellowship among current members and those who share our values of tradition, sportsmanship, and community service, among many others.

RVYC is seeking Sr. JTP instructors, JTP instructors, and adult sailing lesson instructors for the summer season. Responsibilities will include:

  • Coaching Adult Sailing Lessons in Elliots and Capris part-time in June and transitioning to Instruct the Junior Training Program from July to the end of August.
  • Ability to guide and assist Junior Instructors with their lessons and duties. Dailing opening and closing duties.
  • Strong orgnaizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Supervising children and adults in class sizes varying from 12-28.
  • Preparing daily lesson plans along with contingency plans. Ability to be the lead instructor of your assigned class, guiding and directing the Junior Instructors and volunteers in your class.
  • Experience as a Race Committee Officer or mark-setter is an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Creating a fun and accepting environment for kids and adults, with safety as the first priority.

Job Requirements
• CANSail 1&2/1&4/5&6 Instructor Trained/Certified or equivalent as specified by the CANSail Instructor/Coach Equivalency Chart.
• Must have a valid Standard First Aid with CPRC and AED certificate, Pleasure Craft Operators Card, Police backround check (18+), and Safe Sport Training.
• Experience coaching children in dinghies (preferably, Optimists, ILCA 4/7’s, 29ers, and RS Fevas) as well as adults in Keelboats.
