Job Description
SAILING DIRECTOR
The Sailing Director for the Saugatuck Yacht Club Sailing Program will report to the SYCSP Directors. This position would be full-time May through August with part time responsibilities throughout the remainder of the year. This will be a salaried position of up to $30,000 per year, beginning start date: Fall 2022.
The roles and responsibilities for this position will include the following:
● Manage the day-to-day operations of the sailing program with direction from SYCSP Directors
● Recruit and interview all instructors to work the summer program. The slate of instructors will be presented to and approved by the SYCSP Directors
● Collaborate with the SYCSP Directors on hiring/wage recommendations
● Manage the Head Instructor
● Maintain curriculum and development standards for class placement
● Facilitate development of instructors with ongoing leadership and training of
Instructors
● Responsible for conducting all mid-season and end of year Instructor reviews
● Communicate regularly with parents
● Review weekly payroll prior to submission
● Oversight of all program equipment, including sailboats, power boats and trailers
● Maintain all program equipment and scheduling maintenance/storage in off
season
● Coordinate all purchases/needs of capital equipment
● Management of the Clubspot platform which includes; registration set up and
management throughout summer and maintaining the website
● Create a yearly program summary report to include annual trophy winners and
program details for the season
● Source coaches for special training clinics to be held during the season
● Oversee coordination of all WMYSA regatta events
● Create and maintain all procedures and policies related to the SYCSP operations
(includes complying with minor labor laws and board sanctioned safety protocols)
● Manage and execute all weekly SYC Club Races
● Manage and train the Race Committee for weekly Club Races at SYC to be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays June-August
● Coordinate all SYC Adult Sailing Programs to staff safety boats for needed instruction
● Liaison between SYC and SYCSP staff ensuring smooth operations
● Responsible for all SYCSP marketing
● Coordinate and execute all SYCSP events throughout the summer season
○ Boater Safety Classes at SYC
○ SYCSP Family Cookout
○ Annual SYCSP Fundraiser
○ Weekly Club Races
○ No Tears Regatta
○ Annual Awards Ceremony/Commodore’s Cup
● Attend the WMYSA Board Meetings throughout the year
● Coordinate/execute all fundraising and/or Capital Campaigns for SYCSP
● Responsible for securing necessary water permits

Job Requirements
Though this job is highly administrative, must have in depth sailing knowledge, leadership experience, experience transporting sailboats via large trailer, experience managing a staff of young adults, knowledge in race course design and rules, competency rigging Optimist, C420 and RS Quest sailboats, US Sailing Membership and prior youth sailing leadership experience.
