The Hotchkiss School is looking for an accomplished and enthusiastic program director to lead the school’s sailing team.
4+ years coaching at the high school level or above
US Sailing Level One required; Level Two or higher preferred
RO experience in college or high school regattas
Extensive RRS knowledge, including Appendix D and the Team Racing Call Book
Positive, patient, and encouraging coaching mentality
Ability to foster enthusiasm with young people new to the sport *while maintaining interest and competitive edge among the more experienced sailors on the team
Experience creating and managing training programs and day-to-day program operations, including rigging and boat maintenance
Experience organizing race schedules and managing regattas
Working knowledge of daily practice and boat handling drills
Strong references from previous coaches and coworkers
Boating license - CT preferred
Eligible for Connecticut Public Service License for driving students
Duties & Responsibilities:
Boathouse management, preparing for and running practices, game day coaching, scheduling and coordinating travel for regattas, Spring break planning, monitoring of assistant coaches, mentoring Captains, working with families of prospective student-athletes, assisting in the college recruitment process, and other administrative tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate will fulfill the teacher-coach-mentor responsibilities and will promote character building, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
