Norfolk Academy seeks a passionate and dedicated Varsity Sailing Coach to lead one of the top high school sailing programs on the East Coast. The ideal candidate will also serve as a Teaching Associate or full-time faculty member, bringing their expertise and enthusiasm both on the water and in the classroom.

Position Overview:

The Varsity Sailing Coach will oversee all aspects of the sailing program, which competes at a high level during both the fall and spring seasons. With a proud tradition of excellence, Norfolk Academy Sailing has sent over 20 student-athletes to compete at the collegiate level in the past 10 years. The program practices and competes out of Norfolk Yacht Club, where student-athletes have access to high-quality FJ boats and premier sailing facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and organize all aspects of the varsity sailing program, including practices, regattas, and team logistics.

  • Develop and mentor student-athletes, fostering a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership.

  • Collaborate with the athletic department to schedule practices, competitions, and transportation.

  • Maintain and coordinate the care of sailing equipment and boats.

  • Engage with prospective student-athletes and families to help promote the program.

  • If serving as a Teaching Associate or faculty member, teach or assist in academic classes, supporting the broader mission of the school.

  • Build relationships with local and national sailing organizations to continue the program’s reputation for excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Collegiate or high-level sailing experience required.

  • Previous coaching experience preferred.

  • Passion for working with student-athletes and fostering character development.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Willingness to embrace the full school community through coaching, teaching, and mentoring.

  • Bachelor's degree required. Teaching experience or interest in pursuing a teaching career is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary with additional stipend for coaching.

  • Comprehensive benefits package for full-time faculty, including health insurance, retirement plan, and tuition remission.

  • Opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive faculty at one of the top independent schools in the region.

  • Access to Norfolk Yacht Club’s top-tier facilities and equipment.

  • Professional development opportunities.
