Job Description

The Waterfront Director is a leadership position at Fort Worth Boat Club. The Waterfront Director is responsible for developing, managing and promoting the Club’s adult and youth on-the-water activities which include FWBC’s youth sailing program, adult sailing programs and other nautical recreation activities. The Waterfront Director works with the Club’s leadership to set  goals and manage the resources for the various programs’ successful implementation. Success of the youth sailing program is a key responsibility of the Waterfront Director. These programs range from Learn-to-Sail to training and developing sailors and teams for national and international championships. New programs for adult sailing include sailing lessons for members and organizing plans for Club owned keelboat fleet for team racing.

The Waterfront Director’s position is full time, year-round and reports to the Club’s General Manager. The Waterfront Director hires, trains and manages the Club’s full-time sailing coach and is responsible for hiring and managing the part-time staff.


Job Requirements


• Program management - responsible for further developing the structure of FWBC’s youth sailing programs; works with FWBC staff, committees and members to develop and continually improve these programs.

• Staffing and staff management - responsible for hiring, training and supervision of FWBC’s full time sailing instructors; also responsible for hiring contract and part time staff as needed to fulfill program missions.
• High School and Learn-to-Sail programs - provides management support and staffing for the High School and Learn-to-Sail programs.

• Budgeting –works with FWBC staff, leadership and committees to develop and manage program budgets for all waterfront programs.

• Fleet Management - responsible for managing and maintaining FWBC’s fleet of sailing, support boats and nautical recreation equipment.

• New Program development- will work with FWBC’s leadership to develop new sailing programs, which might include keelboat and adult team racing.

• Program Promotion - supports FWBC’s efforts to promote the club and our programs to members and potential members, including soliciting major sailing events.

• Other duties as assigned.


• Demonstrated success in developing and managing large multi-level sailing programs, including scheduling of staff for practices, clinics and regattas.
• Ability to develop and promote new boating programs
• Experience in all levels of sailing competition training including managing staff and programs for participants in national and international competition.
• Basic business skills for budgeting and managing multi-program profit and loss.
• Basic computer skills used for scheduling, communication and data processing.
• Experience with team, match, collegiate and high school sailing.
• Experience with fleet management including maintenance of sail and support boats.
• Demonstrated leadership skills to develop and manage full and part time staff.
• Proven success in the private yacht club environment with the ability to communicate and work with staff, leaders and members.
• Ability to connect with the national and international sailboat racing community with the ability to bring special talents and events to FWBC.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Demonstrated program managing skills
• Strong competitive sailing resume
• Have or obtain Levels 1-3 US Sailing certification
• 10 years of experience in sailboat racing and training
• Collegiate or High School sailing experience
