Job Description

The Tred Avon Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program is seeking experienced and enthusiastic sailing instructors for the summer 2022 season. TAYC is located in the town of Oxford on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Oxford is 90 minutes from Washington D.C., Baltimore and the Delaware beaches, and two hours from Philadelphia. Founded in 1931, TAYC has a strong sailing tradition and has hosted national and international-level regattas.

TAYC’s program is split into a Sailing Camp and a Racing Team. Sailing Camp Instructors will work with the Sailing Camp classes. The Sailing Camp is split into four levels: Learn to Sail, Optimist 1, Optimist 2 and the Recreational Sailing program (using C420s and Ideal 18s). The focus of the Sailing Camp is on learning and fun for kids ages 6 and up, recreational sailing with coaches for older kids, and preparation for racing for kids interested in joining the Racing Team. Instructors in the Sailing Camp will work with collaboratively with the Head Sailing Camp Instructor and the Director to:

       · Teach the TAYC curriculum on and off the water to junior sailors of all levels;

       · Teach respect for the water, equipment, other sailors and TAYC staff and members; and

       · Instill importance of teamwork, accountability and care of boats and equipment

The term of employment is 9 weeks. June 13-16 is an orientation and set up week. The program with junior sailors runs for eight weeks, through August 12. The hours of the program are generally Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. In addition to the program hours, there are a few evening commitments for instructors (such as the annual awards banquet).

Pay is commensurate with experience. Housing will be provided for non-local coaches, and lunches are provided by the club. Instructors also have the opportunity to supplement their base pay with private lessons offered by the club to junior sailors and adults.

Please send a resume and brief statement of your experience and interest to: juniorsail@tayc.com.
