Job Title: Youth Sailing Director, Head Coach

Job Description:
The Eastern Yacht Club (EYC) is seeking an experienced Youth Sailing Director to lead and enhance its vibrant sailing community. This role involves overseeing the design, execution, and supervision of junior sailing and assisting in supporting and promoting various racing programs. The Youth Sailing Director will work closely with the EYC Sailing Director.
Responsibilities:
1. Program Management
• Collaborate with the Sailing Director to support various youth programs
• Actively promote adult sailing, women’s racing, educational seminars, and racing events.
• Maintain and improve the various sailboat assets of Eastern YC.
• Represent the EYC at regional and national sailing associations, attending meetings to advance the club's sailing mission.
• Coordinate with other Marblehead yacht clubs for all harbor sailing events.
• Work with the EYC Communications Director to document member participation in sailing activities and create content for web, social media, and email communications.
2. Youth Sailing Development
• Develop and implement programs that enhance the sailing and seamanship skills of youth sailors enrolled in EYC summer camp and various youth sailing classes. Pathways to comfort and self-confidence around the waterfront will be organized to encourage lifetime recreational skills.
• Coordination with Corinthian YC and Boston YC should be continued with Women Sailing initiatives and getting non-boat-owners organized with family sails and introductions.
• Organizing in-season sailing clinics and out of season educational enhancements should be innovative, vibrant and enjoyable for all skill levels.
3. Fleet Maintenance
• Oversee the maintenance of the EYC fleet, ensuring vessels are easily available for use and functionality of all systems. This includes rec and race sails, sail covers, standing and running rigging and all working gear on hulls, decks and spars.
• Maintain and organize the club's sailing program storage and operational areas.in tennis hut and sailing office.
• Coordinate with BYC and CYC for use of shared assets for practices, club and harbor-wide special events
• Always offer logistical support to other clubs for helping them host events in Sonars, whether or not EYC is the host.
4. Junior Sailing Program
• Oversee the hiring and supervision of the seasonal sailing staff.
• Support the Junior Sailing sub-committee and Director in the hiring of instructors as needed. Make sailing fun and encourage 9 year olds to continue with Pleon.
• Coordinate with Pleon to offer keelboat programming (for Pleon enrollees) with Eastern’s Sonars for kids who want to try keelboats.
5. Race Management
• Ensure that all EYC sailing events are conducted professionally, collaborating with the event organizers and the Race Committee.
• Identify and attract major regional, national, and international regattas in partnership with the Sailing Committee.
• Support various racing events, including weeknight PHRF racing, Team EYC racing and the Fall/Spring Laser Series.
• Race Management rules and practical experiences are a foundational skill for this position.
Requirements:
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with volunteers
• Race management experience and an understanding of the Racing Rules of Sailing
• Management experience is a plus
