Job Description

Position Title: Sail Newport Regatta Coordinator  

Job Term: Seasonal Full-Time April - November 

FLSA Status: Non-exempt 

Reports To: Sail Newport Executive Director

Sail Newport seeks an enthusiastic and experienced regatta coordinator to plan and execute our 2025 regatta calendar alongside our race committee volunteer team and Sail Newport management staff. 

Key Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Maintain outreach and communication with classes for the 2025 season 
  • Responsible for registrations, regatta documents, measurement, organizing protest jury and associated paperwork, check-in procedures, and post-event breakdown
  • Manage and maintain inventory of all regatta management equipment, including race marks, MarkSetBotsaudible and visual signaling equipment, and other RC equipment 
  • Organize and manage the regatta equipment trailer
  • Prep RC mark and signal boats for regattas and events to ensure the race committee has the required complement of gear in working order and provisions (food and water).
  • Responsible for coordinating with area clubs and individuals for borrowed equipment (boats and/or RC gear) as necessary
  • Assemble and train as necessary a skilled team of race committee volunteers for each race day
  • Coordinate with event manager shoreside transitions (launching, hauling, socials)Work on the water during events supporting RC Stay in close contact with NE Marine Pilots and US Coast Guard to determine and respond with communication and action on any large marine traffic that could cross a race course or the passageways while entrants are commuting to and from the racecourse 
  • Work with the Executive Director, Marketing Director and Director of Administration as necessary
  • Work with the Operations and Program Staff to facilitate pre-season and end of season facility prep (dock and boat launching)

Schedule 

The regattas coordinator position is seasonal full-time (40 hr) with a variable schedule of days and hours, including weekends.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements  

  • Sailboat and motorboat experience required
  • Power boaters license preferred
  • Racing experience preferred 
  • Level I certificate preferred 
  • Knowledge of race committee and sailing equipment required
  • Ability to work long and flexible hours, including some weekends 
  • Ability to lift/carry marks and equipment up to 60 lbs 
  • Competent with tertiary regatta platforms, Google and Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with volunteers - communication, motivation and direction
